Agency workers are a step closer to being given the same employment rights as permanent staff. The final decision will be made as part of a Europe-wide agreement on agency workers later this summer. Under the agreement, agency workers will be given equal pay and holiday entitlements after 12 weeks in a job. However, the agreement will not cover sick pay or pension payments. At the Global Food Summit in Rome, Douglas Alexander, International Development Secretary, announced further UK funding to combat food price rises. He proposed a new partnership on agriculture and food which will tackle the short-term effects, and the long-term causes, of rising prices. The additional funding will bring the total UK contribution to more than £500m.
Those involved in the ongoing wranglings about food labelling might be interested in the latest survey conducted by Standard Life Healthcare.
